Why are the Geckos Gathering?
It must be for the stories!

This summer, my cousin Bob and I sat on the veranda of our Hotel in Granada, Nicaragua, and chatted while the sun went down. As we finished sharing stories about our travels, darkness set in and we grew silent. As single light illuminated the patio's interior wall, we watched as geckos gathered. They, too, chatted to each other as they waited for their dinner, small flying insects drawn by the warmth of the light.

As autumn arrives in Houston, a new storytelling venue arrives with it. Jay Stailey, co-producer of the River Café Story Nights in the latter days of the last century, and Brian Herod, producer of Stories from the Edge at Helios, in the early days of this century, have joined creative forces to produce a new arena in which to tell and listen to stories.

Beginning in September, in the spirit of those Geckos Gathering, a unique Houston venue coupled with a special story theme will be announced. Those interested in telling stories to the theme can contact Jay and Brian by e-mail and will be put on the program for the coming month. A new venue and theme will be announced at each Geckos Gathering.
